A new project
an explanation of where I have been
I started this substack a while ago. There were a few reasons for this: I wanted to practice my writing, I wanted to share my thoughts, and I wanted to connect with other people who liked talking ideas.
I wasn’t overly diligent in my posting, though I did try to maintain a schedule. It has now been months since my last post. There is a reason.
Over on the twitterverse I have gained a lot of followers. I am a few hundred shy of 3k, and many of those followers are of significant status. Somehow I managed to be relevant or interesting enough to garner attention and friendship with some very intelligent people. I am still a bit amazed that it happened. This lead to opportunity. Opportunity that inspired action.
A few months back I was on a road trip. I was flipping through twitter and one of my mutuals, one I have huge respect for, was asking for financial help. She puts in a lot of effort doing research and was not finding much success. I did not like that. People who work hard should be rewarded. I wanted to help.
Now, I don’t have much in discretionary income. So, I couldn’t just send money. Plus I also feel that a subscription or donation really means much in the long term. But I did have other ways in which I could help.
When I got to my hotel room I set up a call with a friend. I explained my plan and asked for his thoughts. He thought the plan was good. Then I started working.
The plan was simple. I would make a site that would showcase my favorite twitter creators and use each other’s audiences to grow the attention for each account. I just needed buy-in from contributors. I started messaging a bunch of people and the commitments happened. Content started to be discussed and posts were being worked on.
Yesterday the site launched. It is a substack publication. At this moment we have about 6 weeks worth of content lined up. Some of it from me. Much of it from contributors. And more is in process.
I am excited to see where this project goes. I hope it gets big enough to help my twitter friends out and more.
I will be on-and-off active, here on my personal substack, as I will focus mainly on keeping the group one functioning.
I appreciate your time in reading my silly words. And I invite you to follow my group’s work over at www.correspondenceTheory.com. I think you’ll enjoy what we bring to the conversation. And, if you find value over there, please share the link. It would mean a lot.
Cheers,
unmitigated Jeff
